1 AN ACT to amend the Environmental Protection Act by
2 adding Section 17.6a.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Environmental Protection Act is amended
6 by adding Section 17.6a as follows:
7 (415 ILCS 5/17.6a new)
8 Sec. 17.6a. Asbestos in drinking water.
9 (a) Every drinking water treatment plant shall test for
10 asbestos at least annually.
11 (b) Beginning January 1, 2000, the maximum contaminant
12 level for asbestos in drinking water shall be 1,000 fibers
13 per liter for fibers no larger than 1 micron.
14 (c) The Agency may develop standards and procedures and
15 the Board may adopt rules to implement the requirements of
16 this Section.
