1 AN ACT to amend the Criminal Code of 1961 by adding
2 Section 24-3.6.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Criminal Code of 1961 is amended by adding
6 Section 24-3.6 as follows:
7 (720 ILCS 5/24-3.6 new)
8 Sec. 24-3.6. Unlawful attempt to purchase a firearm
9 without a Firearm Owner's Identification Card.
10 (a) A person commits the offense of unlawful attempt to
11 purchase a firearm without a Firearm Owner's Identification
12 Card when the person:
13 (1) intends to purchase a firearm without
14 displaying to the transferor of the firearm a valid
15 Firearm Owner's Identification Card issued in the
16 person's name by the Department of State Police; and
17 (2) takes a substantial step in the completion of
18 the purchase of the firearm.
19 (b) Sentence. Unlawful attempt to purchase a firearm
20 without a Firearm Owner's Identification Card is a Class A
21 misdemeanor.
