1 AN ACT to amend the Higher Education Student Assistance
2 Act by adding Section 63.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Higher Education Student Assistance Act
6 is amended by adding Section 63 as follows:
7 (110 ILCS 947/63 new)
8 Sec. 63. Scholarships for children of farmers.
9 (a) In this Section, "college or university" means a
10 college or university as defined in Section 65 of this Act.
11 (b) Each county is entitled, annually, to one honorary
12 scholarship in a college or university, for the benefit of
13 any child of a person who derives 50% or more of his or her
14 income from farming. The scholarship shall be granted to
15 such pupil as shall be decided, upon public examination
16 conducted as the Commission may determine, to have attained
17 the greatest proficiency in the branches of learning usually
18 taught in the secondary schools. The pupil shall be of good
19 moral character and shall not be less than 15 years of age.
20 A pupil so selected is entitled to receive, without charge
21 for tuition, instruction in any or all departments of a
22 college or university for a term of at least 4 consecutive
23 years. The pupil shall conform, in all respects, to the
24 rules and regulations of the college or university,
25 established for the government of the pupils in attendance.
26 Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
27 becoming law.
