1 AN ACT concerning fire protection districts.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Fire Protection District Act is amended
5 by adding Section 25.3 as follows:
6 (70 ILCS 705/25.3 new)
7 Sec. 25.3. Key lock boxes. The board of trustees of any
8 fire protection district incorporated under this Act may, by
9 ordinance, require structures located within the jurisdiction
10 of the fire protection district to have installed on the
11 exterior of those structures a key lock box system that will
12 afford access to the structure by the fire department in the
13 event of an emergency response to the structure. The fire
14 protection district may designate the types of structures
15 required to have those systems and the type and location of
16 any exterior lock box system on structures, and the fire
17 protection district may promulgate regulations relating to
18 the installation, maintenance, security, and use of those
19 systems. The ordinance must provide for a reasonable
20 compliance period for existing structures of not less than
21 one year from the effective date of the ordinance, and any
22 requirement for the installation of those systems in single
23 family structures shall be prospective in effect only.
