91_HB3625 LRB9110926NTks 1 AN ACT in relation to education. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing 5 Section 21-11.3 as follows: 6 (105 ILCS 5/21-11.3) (from Ch. 122, par. 21-11.3) 7 Sec. 21-11.3. Resident teacher certificate. A resident 8 teacher certificate shall be valid for 2 years for employment 9 as a resident teacher in a public school. It shall be issued 10 only to persons who have graduated from a regionally 11 accredited institution of higher education with a bachelor's 12 degree, who are enrolled in a program of preparation approved 13 by the State Superintendent of Education in consultation with 14 the State Teacher Certification Board, and who have passed 15 the appropriate tests as required in Section 21-1a of this 16 Code and as determined by the State Board of Education. A 17 resident teacher certificate may be issued for teaching 18 children through grade 3 or for grades K-9, 6-12, or K-12 in 19 a special subject area and may not be renewed. A resident 20 teacher may teach only in conjunction with and under the 21 direction of a certified teacher and shall not teach in place 22 of a certified teacher. 23 (Source: P.A. 90-548, eff. 1-1-98; 91-102, eff. 7-12-99.)
