1 AN ACT concerning children and family services.
2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
4 Section 5. The Children and Family Services Act is
5 amended by changing Section 1 as follows:
6 (20 ILCS 505/1) (from Ch. 23, par. 5001)
7 Sec. 1. Purposes. The purpose of this Act is to create
8 a Department of Children and Family Services to provide
9 social services to children and their families, to operate
10 children's institutions, and to provide certain other
11 rehabilitative and residential services as enumerated in this
12 Act.
13 It is the intent of this Act that the child welfare
14 services herein provided do not release the parent or
15 guardian from responsibility to provide for the financial
16 support of their children.
17 This primary and continuing responsibility applies
18 whether the family unit of parents and children remain intact
19 and reside in a common household or whether the unit has been
20 temporarily broken by reason of child abuse, neglect,
21 dependency or other reasons necessitating state care and
22 training.
23 It is the purpose of this Act to provide for
24 determination for the appropriate level of support, from
25 parents given their financial circumstances.
