1 AN ACT to amend the Criminal Code of 1961 by adding
2 Section 31-5.5.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Criminal Code of 1961 is amended by
6 adding Section 31-5.5 as follows:
7 (720 ILCS 5/31-5.5 new)
8 Sec. 31-5.5. Failure to report an offense committed
9 against a child.
10 (a) A person commits the offense of failure to report an
11 offense committed against a child when he or she:
12 (1) Knows that an offense has been committed
13 against a child under 18 years of age; and
14 (2) Knows that the child has died or that the
15 child's life or health has been endangered by the
16 commission of the offense; and
17 (3) Knowingly fails to report that offense to a
18 peace officer or law enforcement agency.
19 (b) Sentence. Failure to report an offense committed
20 against a child is a Class A misdemeanor.
