1 HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION
2 CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT
3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
5 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to
6 the electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the
7 general election next occurring at least 6 months after the
8 adoption of this resolution a proposition to amend Section 2
9 of Article VI of the Illinois Constitution as follows:
10 ARTICLE VI
11 THE JUDICIARY
12 (ILCON Art. VI, Sec. 2)
13 SECTION 2. JUDICIAL DISTRICTS
14 The State is divided into 5 five Judicial Districts for
15 the selection of Supreme and Appellate Court Judges. The
16 First Judicial District consists of Cook County. The
17 remainder of the State shall be divided by law into four
18 Judicial Districts of substantially equal population, each of
19 which shall be compact and composed of contiguous counties.

21 SCHEDULE
22 This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
23 declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois
24 Constitutional Amendment Act.
