91_HR0092 LRB9105888CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Since 1844, Dominicans throughout the world have 3 proudly joined in the celebration of Dominican Independence 4 Day, February 27th; and 5 WHEREAS, Dominican independence was the culmination of a 6 22-year struggle led by the Trinitaria, Juan Pable Duarte, 7 Francisco del Rosario Sanchez, and Matias Ramon Mella; and 8 WHEREAS, As one of the first new world nations to 9 institute an emancipation proclamation, the Dominican 10 Republic's Native, African, and Spanish peoples have created 11 an all-inclusive yet unique culture; and 12 WHEREAS, Casa Dominicana was born in 1991 in Chicago, 13 Illinois, as a non-profit, community service organization to 14 preserve and promote Dominican culture; and 15 WHEREAS, Casa Dominicana serves the entire Latin 16 community, both locally and internationally, sponsoring 17 health fairs, advocacy and legal defense, and disaster relief 18 in Latin American countries; and 19 WHEREAS, Casa Dominicana welcomes to the City of Chicago 20 and the State of Illinois His Excellency, Bernardo Vega, 21 Ambassador of the Dominican Republic; and 22 WHEREAS, His Excellency, Bernardo Vega, one of the 23 brightest of the Dominican Republic's native sons, is not 24 only an experienced diplomat but also a prolific writer of 25 history, culture, and economics; therefore, be it 26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 27 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 28 we do hereby commemorate the 155th anniversary of Dominican 29 independence and extend to Casa Dominicana, Ambassador 30 Bernardo Vega, and Dominicans in the great State of Illinois -2- LRB9105888CBcb 1 every best wish for continued success in present and future 2 endeavors; and be it further 3 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 4 tendered to Casa Dominicana and to His Excellency, Bernardo 5 Vega, as recognition of their achievements and contributions.
