1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to honor milestones in the lives
4 of the people of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Stephen Potsic of Nokomis, Illinois will be
6 celebrating his 94th birthday on February 27; Mr. Potsic was
7 born in 1905 to his parents, Stephen Potsic, Sr., and Anna
8 Sarsany Potsic, both originally from Zavadka, Czechoslovakia;
9 Stephen Potsic Sr. worked in the coal mines to pay for his
10 trip to the United States, and soon settled in Witt, Illinois
11 to raise his family; and
12 WHEREAS, Stephen Potsic was diagnosed at an early age
13 with Infantile Paralysis (polio); he grew up to overcome this
14 childhood illness and become the skilled craftsman he is
15 today; and
16 WHEREAS, Stephen began carving at an early age; today he
17 has amassed a collection that includes an Indian chief, a
18 copy of the Abraham Lincoln statue in Rosemond Grove cemetery
19 in Rosamond, Illinois, pigs, duck decoys, and all of the
20 presidential profiles from Washington to Bush; he would like
21 to do a profile of our current President, but is suffering
22 from poor eyesight and cannot see well enough to carve; and
23 WHEREAS, Stephen has appeared on local news programs, as
24 well as local publications that want to tell his story; he
25 was recently honored with a Certificate of Appreciation from
26 Congressman John Shimkus and a letter from Governor Jim
27 Edgar; Mr. Potsic is a fine example of the best of Illinois;
28 therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
30 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
31 we congratulate Stephen Potsic for achieving a lifetime of

1 memories through his wood carvings; we wish him a continued
2 long and happy life, as well as good thoughts on his 94th
3 birthday; and be it further
4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to Stephen Potsic of Nokomis, Illinois, along with
6 our warmest regards.
