1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Sacred Heart-Griffin High School and its
3 predecessors have provided a strong tradition of quality,
4 Catholic education for the young people of the Springfield
5 area; and
6 WHEREAS, In 1960 Father Joseph C. "Padre" Canella decided
7 that Griffin High School would begin serving a pasta dinner
8 in celebration of the feast of St. Joseph; and
9 WHEREAS, Sacred Heart-Griffin High School has continued
10 the tradition and now serves nearly 12,000 dinners every year
11 on Mostaccioli Sunday; and
12 WHEREAS, To feed 12,000 people, SHG cooks over two tons
13 of pasta, over one thousand gallons of sauce, and 29,000
14 meatballs; and
15 WHEREAS, Sacred Heart-Griffin has relied on the hard work
16 and good will of thousands of alumni, parents, and friends of
17 the school throughout the years; and
18 WHEREAS, Through the generosity of Sacred Heart-Griffin's
19 out-of-town alumni over 300 dinner tickets are donated back
20 to the school each year and distributed to local charities;
21 and
22 WHEREAS, Mostaccioli Sunday now includes not only
23 delicious pasta, but also a Country Cupboard, a raffle for a
24 new vehicle, a gymnasium full of exhibitors, and an
25 Advertising Booklet; and
26 WHEREAS, On March 17, 1999, Sacred Heart-Griffin will
27 proudly celebrate forty years of the Mostaccioli Dinner;
28 therefore, be it
29 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
30 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that

1 we congratulate Sacred Heart-Griffin High School in
2 Springfield, Illinois on the fortieth anniversary of
3 Mostaccioli Sunday; and be it further
4 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5 presented to Sacred Heart-Griffin High School.
