91_HR0177 LRB9106448CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of this body are honored to 3 recognize significant milestones in the lives of the people 4 of this State; and 5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Mrs. Martha 6 Jean "Jill" Wieland of Jerseyville has been chosen Illinois 7 Mother of the Year for 1999; and 8 WHEREAS, She was born in Taylorville, the daughter of 9 Benjamin and Martha Melin Boyd; she attended a small rural 10 elementary school and graduated from Taylorville Township 11 High School; and 12 WHEREAS, She left home to attend Blackburn Junior College 13 where she served as secretary to the president until 14 receiving an Associate Bachelor of Arts degree; she then went 15 to the University of Illinois at Champaign, serving as 16 student secretary in the Department of Physiology, after 17 which she received a civil service appointment to work as 18 secretary in the office of the Associate Dean in the College 19 of Engineering; and 20 WHEREAS, In 1940, she married William K. Wieland of Dow, 21 a graduate of the University of Illinois; in 1942, they moved 22 to the Wieland Family Farm, where he farmed until 1963 when 23 he returned to teaching school; at the time of his death in 24 1982, he was serving as an elementary school principal; and 25 WHEREAS, Jill Wieland is the loving mother of Daniel 26 Benjamin Wieland and Martha Wieland Arnold; she is the proud 27 grandmother of two grandchildren; in 1962, the Wielands 28 became foster parents for the Children's Home and Aid Society 29 of Illinois (CHASI); over the years she has been interim 30 mother for over 100 children; and 31 WHEREAS, Mrs. Wieland is affiliated with the First -2- LRB9106448CBcb 1 Presbyterian Church, the CHASI Southwest Regional Board, the 2 CHASI Jersey County Auxiliary, the Presbyterian Women's 3 Association, Dr. Silas Hamilton Chapter of the National 4 Society Daughters of the American Revolution, the Jersey 5 County Historical Society, the Jerseyville Chapter of Church 6 Women United, the Daughters of 1812, and the Swedish Council 7 of St. Louis; and 8 WHEREAS, Mrs. Wieland will be honored at a ceremony to be 9 held at the First United Presbyterian Church in Jerseyville; 10 therefore, be it 11 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 12 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 13 we congratulate Mrs. Martha Jean Wieland on being named 14 Illinois Mother of the Year for 1999 and that we extend to 15 her our sincere best wishes for her future; and be it further 16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 17 presented to Mrs. Martha Jean Wieland as an expression of our 18 respect and esteem.
