91_HR0178 LRB9101185KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence 3 (ICADV) celebrated its 20th anniversary in October of 1998; 4 and 5 WHEREAS, In 1978, 12 Illinois domestic violence programs 6 made the decision to share ideas and strategies and to form a 7 united voice with regard to legislative issues, and to aid in 8 funding attempts; today that program, the ICADV, has grown 9 into 49 member programs; Vickie Smith serves as the Executive 10 Director; and 11 WHEREAS, The ICADV advocates for public policy and 12 legislative efforts that provide both safety for victims of 13 domestic abuse and accountability for their abusers; the 14 ICADV led in supporting the passage of the Illinois Domestic 15 Violence Act and anti-stalking legislation; and 16 WHEREAS, The ICADV provides public education with a 17 library of books, articles, videos, and other materials 18 covering domestic violence and related items of interest to 19 the public; the ICADV provides materials in English, Spanish, 20 Polish, and Korean to anyone needing more information about 21 domestic abuse and violence; and 22 WHEREAS, The ICADV provides training on the Illinois 23 Domestic Violence Act and other relevant issues, to law 24 enforcement officials, judiciary officials, medical 25 personnel, social workers, counselors, and other 26 professionals associated with the assistance of victims of 27 domestic violence, or those that deal with the abusers; and 28 WHEREAS, The ICADV's purpose is threefold: to fund 29 programs to respond to victims, to train professionals who 30 work with victims, and to increase public awareness regarding 31 domestic violence; it is through the hard work of the -2- LRB9101185KBkb 1 Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence that lives are 2 changed for the better; therefore, be it 3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 4 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 5 we congratulate the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic 6 Violence on their celebration of 20 years of service to the 7 people of the State of Illinois; we commend them for their 8 dedication to education and assistance in the field of 9 domestic violence; and be it further 10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 11 presented to the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic 12 Violence.
