91_HR0190 LRB9106476CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Corporal Richard E. Bush received the 3 Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions during World War 4 II at Mount Yaetake on Okinawa on April 16, 1945; and 5 WHEREAS, Corporal Bush received the medal for conspicuous 6 gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and 7 beyond the call of duty in action against enemy Japanese 8 forces; and 9 WHEREAS, Corporal Bush led his squad up the face of the 10 rocky precipice and drove the defending troops from their 11 deeply entrenched position; he fought in the forefront of the 12 action until he was seriously wounded and was evacuated with 13 others under protecting rocks; and 14 WHEREAS, While under medical treatment, a hand grenade 15 landed in the midst of the group of injured and Corporal 16 Bush, alert and courageous, pulled the missile towards 17 himself and absorbed the shattering blow with his own body; 18 and 19 WHEREAS, By his valiant leadership and aggressive 20 tactics, his constant concern for the welfare of his men, and 21 his unwavering devotion to duty, Corporal Bush helped gain 22 the conquest of this outpost of the Japanese Empire; and 23 WHEREAS, The State of Illinois is proud of people like 24 Richard E. Bush, who risked his life in the service of his 25 country; therefore, be it 26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 27 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 28 we congratulate Richard E. Bush in receiving the 29 Congressional Medal of Honor; that we commend him for his 30 valor and courage; and that we wish him all the best of luck 31 in the future; and be it further -2- LRB9106476CBcb 1 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 2 presented to Richard E. Bush as an expression of our esteem.
