1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Andrew Messerli, of
4 Highland High School in Highland, Illinois, on being named to
5 the John Philip Sousa National Honors Band; and
6 WHEREAS, The John Philip Sousa National Honors Band is
7 comprised of top performing students from around the country,
8 selected for being top performers in local, district, and
9 state level music programs; the students will congregate in
10 Washington, D.C. in May to begin practicing for their concert
11 to be held on May 8; and
12 WHEREAS, Andrew has been playing the euphonium for seven
13 years, and studying independently for five years; he studies
14 with Mr. Sean Reed-Bippen of Highland, Mr. Al Horney at
15 Eastern Illinois University, Mr. Ken Steinsultz and Mr. Mark
16 Moore at the University of Illinois, and Mr. Jim Childers,
17 the band director at Highland High School; and
18 WHEREAS, Andrew has played under Colonel John Bourgeois
19 at the University of Illinois; Eugene Corporon at the
20 Bi-State Band Festival of '99, and Vic Markovich at the
21 Bi-State Band Festival of '98; and
22 WHEREAS, Andrew has been the featured soloist with the
23 Highland Municipal Band during its summer music concerts;
24 Andrew has been selected to perform in the Illinois Music
25 Educators Association District Jazz and Concert Bands; he has
26 performed with the St. Louis Tuba Christmas Organization for
27 the past five years; he is also a member of the St. Paul
28 Brass Choir of St. Paul's Church in Highland; and
29 WHEREAS, Upon graduation he plans to continue his studies
30 in a university music program and perform with one of the
31 military's elite music ensembles; therefore, be it

1 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3 we congratulate Andrew Messerli on being selected for the
4 John Philip Sousa National Honors Band; and be it further
5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to Andrew Messerli, along with our sincere regards.
