91_HR0202 LRB9106534CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of this House are pleased and 3 honored to recognize an organization that helps the citizens 4 of this State and it is our privilege to recognize the 5 Pathway Services Unlimited, Inc. of Jacksonville; and 6 WHEREAS, Because children with developmental disabilities 7 were not included in public school programs, several local 8 parents met in early 1964 and began the Pathway School; the 9 corporate charter was recorded in Morgan County on May 18, 10 1964; and 11 WHEREAS, The first venture of the new organization was a 12 summer session taught by a special educator, Bill Walsh; the 13 first year was successful; several children were receiving 14 programming, a base of community supporters was established, 15 and the Board of Education was beginning to respond to the 16 needs of "mentally retarded children"; and 17 WHEREAS, The Pathway School is an approved program for 18 severely and profoundly retarded and multiply handicapped 19 children aged 3-21; classroom instruction includes 20 communication, gross motor skills, perceptual motor tasks, 21 use of leisure time, socialization, and self-care skills; and 22 WHEREAS, Pathway Services Unlimited has established a 23 number of community based residential alternatives 24 specifically designed to provide individuals who have 25 developmental disabilities an appropriate home in the least 26 restrictive setting; and 27 WHEREAS, Pathway Services Unlimited provides and 28 stimulates the development of programs which enhance the 29 total well-being of persons developmentally disabled; 30 therefore, be it 31 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE -2- LRB9106534CBcb 1 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 2 we wish to recognize the Pathway Services Unlimited on its 3 35th anniversary and to offer our sincere best wishes for 4 continued success in the future; and be it further 5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 6 presented to James P. May, Executive Director of Pathway 7 Services Unlimited.
