91_HR0210 LRB9106566CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body were saddened to learn 3 of the death of William J. Asselborn, Jr., Mayor of the 4 Village of Glenwood, on Wednesday, April 7, 1999; and 5 WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago on March 26, 1939; he 6 graduated from Mt. Carmel High School and subsequently 7 received his Basic and General Certificates from the American 8 Institute of Banking; he completed graduate and postgraduate 9 courses at the Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking; and 10 WHEREAS, Mr. Asselborn was a senior vice president at 11 Highland Community Bank in Chicago since 1997; before that, 12 he was the president and chief executive officer at Ashland 13 State Bank in Chicago, having joined the bank in 1963; and 14 WHEREAS, Mr. Asselborn was beginning his third year of 15 his second term as Mayor; he served three terms as a Glenwood 16 Trustee from 1980-1993; while Trustee, he was a member of the 17 Village's planning commission in 1979-1980 and was a member 18 of the Glenwood School District 167 Board from 1978-1980; and 19 WHEREAS, He was elected president of the South Suburban 20 Mayors and Managers Association in May of 1998 and was a 21 member of the Illinois Bankers Association's Federal 22 Legislative Committee; and 23 WHEREAS, He was a member of the Sertoma Club, the Chicago 24 Heights Country Club, and the Illinois National Guard at the 25 47th Street and Cottage Grove Avenue Armory in Chicago; and 26 WHEREAS, Mr. Asselborn's dedication was instrumental in 27 bring economic development to the area that included the 28 Village purchasing the renowned Glenwoodie Golf Course; the 29 new Village Hall/Police Station complex construction has 30 begun; and Mr. Asselborn was an advocate of bringing the 31 third airport to the Chicago Southland Area; and -2- LRB9106566CBcb 1 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family 2 and friends, especially his wife, Joyce; his children, 3 William, Donald, Thomas, Daniel, and Lisa; his 4 daughters-in-law, Jayne, Cathy, Nancy, and Jennifer; and his 5 granddaughters, Kara and Kristina; therefore, be it 6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 7 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 8 we note with sorrow and regret the death of William J. 9 Asselborn, Jr., and extend our sincere condolences to his 10 family and friends; and be it further 11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 12 presented to his widow, Joyce Asselborn.
