91_HR0248 LRB9106717KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to congratulate the Reverend Jesse 4 Jackson and their former colleague U.S. Representative Rod 5 Blagojevich on winning the freedom of three American soldiers 6 being held by Yugoslavian forces in Belgrade; and 7 WHEREAS, Reverend Jackson and Representative Blagojevich 8 met with Yugoslav leader Slobodan Milosevic to secure the 9 release of Sgt. Christopher Stone, Spec. Steven Gonzales, and 10 Sgt. Andrew Ramirez; and 11 WHEREAS, The three American servicemen had been held in 12 captivity since March 31, when they were captured near the 13 Macedonian border with Kosovo; on May 2 they were reunited 14 with their families at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany; 15 and 16 WHEREAS, The Reverend Jesse Jackson has been actively 17 involved in ministry work, civil rights, and human rights, 18 and has, in the past, worked to secure the release of other 19 imprisoned Americans; and 20 WHEREAS, United States Representative Rod Blagojevich is 21 from the Fifth District in Chicago, and is a former member of 22 the Illinois House of Representatives; he grew up speaking 23 Serbo-Croatian with his father, who had emigrated from 24 Yugoslavia after World War II; and 25 WHEREAS, Together these two men bravely entered into a 26 hostile situation for the sake of many; therefore, be it 27 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 28 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 29 we congratulate Reverend Jesse Jackson and Representative Rod 30 Blagojevich on a job well done; for their hard work and 31 devotion to others, we again say thank you; and be it further -2- LRB9106717KBkb 1 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 2 presented to Reverend Jesse Jackson and Representative Rod 3 Blagojevich.
