91_HR0387 LRB9107206CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of this House were saddened to learn 3 of the death of Mrs. Doris Yvonne Lacy Carman of Arthur on 4 March 18, 1999; and 5 WHEREAS, She was born on January 18, 1929 in Arthur, the 6 daughter of Harold and Emma Agge Lacy; she attended Arthur 7 schools and graduated as salutatorian of her class in 1947; 8 and 9 WHEREAS, She married Bill Carman and they moved to 10 Mattoon; the next year their only child, Billie Yvonne, was 11 born; they soon moved back to Arthur and she went to work for 12 the Arthur Graphic-Clarion; and 13 WHEREAS, She later began working for the Progress 14 Manufacturing Company and remained there for more than 30 15 years as executive secretary; she wrote a newsletter for 16 Progress and later a book on the history of the oil division 17 and casket company; and 18 WHEREAS, She became a personal secretary for the Grand 19 Matron of Eastern Star in Macon, and for a short time she and 20 her husband owned and operated a restaurant named "Carmans"; 21 and 22 WHEREAS, In 1987, she became a part-time employee at 23 Schrock Brothers cabinet factory, then went to work full-time 24 in 1990 and stayed until 1993; in 1993, she became tourism 25 director for the Association of Commerce and Village of 26 Arthur, and under her guidance tourism increased; and 27 WHEREAS, She joined the Eastern Star and served as Worthy 28 Matron three times; she became a Grand Lecturer and held 29 installations for six to ten chapters a month for many years; 30 she founded the Patrons Club in Macon to help support the 31 Matrons Home in that town; and -2- LRB9107206CBcb 1 WHEREAS, She was a life-long member of the Vine Street 2 Christian Church; and 3 WHEREAS, Her passing will be deeply felt by her family 4 and friends, especially her husband, Bill; her daughter, 5 Billie Yvonne Long; her grandchildren, step-grandchildren, 6 and great-grandchildren; and her sisters and brother, Margie 7 Elliott, Merril Lacy, and Nancy Bell; therefore, be it 8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 9 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 10 we note with sorrow and regret the death of Mrs. Doris Yvonne 11 Lacy Carman and extend our sincere condolences to her family 12 and friends; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 14 presented to the family of Doris Yvonne Lacy Carman.
