1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The McGowan family roots are: Charlie, Sylvester
3 (Britt), Mattie, Mary, Irene (Rena), Emma, Thomas, Frank, and
4 Jesse as in the family tree graphic (designed by Allison
5 McGowan in 1980); and
6 WHEREAS, Charlie McGowan was the first McGowan family
7 member to arrive in Chicago in the early 1920's; and
8 WHEREAS, Throughout the years the McGowan family career
9 backgrounds and earning power included entrepreneurs,
10 educators, government workers, and a host of other
11 occupations; and
12 WHEREAS, The McGowan Family Reunion event started in
13 Chicago, Illinois, in 1979 and is now celebrating 20 years of
14 family reunions; and
15 WHEREAS, The McGowan family 20th year reunion committee
16 is chaired by Ida McGowan, co-chaired by Mildred McGowan
17 Arburtha, Shana Porter (daughter of Deloris McGowan Porter
18 serves as secretary, John and Mattie McGowan serve as
19 treasurers, Deloris McGowan Porter serves as family
20 historian, Alexis Reid (daughter of Mildred McGowan Arburtha)
21 serves as program chair, Dolores McGowan Elligan serves as
22 Sergeant of Arms, Norman McGowan serves as photographer, and
23 Lavern McGowan Mangum is in charge of memorials; and
24 WHEREAS, The 20th year active committee members are:
25 Richard Elligan, Gloria McGowan, Louise Reed, Anthony
26 McGowan, Verna Stewart, Reverend Fred Hickman, Adrienne
27 McGowan Hickman, Mildred Robinson, Harry Hall, Myrtle Dorsey,
28 Jeffrey McGowan, Shirley McGowan White, Denise Elligan,
29 Luetoria McGowan, Whitney McGowan, Bianca Reid, Ashley
30 McGowan, and Mrs. Adam Donald McGowan (Iola); and
31 WHEREAS, The McGowan 20th year reunion emphasizes "The

1 Family in the New Millennium"; the family in all its
2 definition and descriptions remain the most important unit in
3 our civilization, culture, and in a supportive and productive
4 way of life; therefore, be it
5 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7 we congratulate the McGowan family on their 20th anniversary
8 reunion; and be it further
9 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
10 given to the McGowan family.
