1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Illinois farmers are vital to the State's
3 economy; and
4 WHEREAS, Drought has caused Illinois farmers to sustain
5 substantial crop losses during 1999; and
6 WHEREAS, Governor Ryan sent a letter prepared by the
7 Illinois Department of Agriculture to Secretary Glickman of
8 the United States Department of Agriculture on October 4,
9 1999, urging the Secretary to grant 47 counties in Illinois a
10 Secretarial Natural Disaster Determination due to drought;
11 and
12 WHEREAS, If the Determination is granted, resident
13 farmers of those counties will qualify for federal
14 low-interest loans and other federal grant assistance;
15 therefore, be it
16 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
17 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18 the Illinois House urges Secretary Glickman to grant the
19 Secretarial Natural Disaster Determination for the 47
20 counties in Illinois as designated by the Illinois Department
21 of Agriculture and Governor Ryan; and be it further
22 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23 forwarded to Secretary Glickman of the United States
24 Department of Agriculture.
