1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, On January 31, 2000, a Rockford public school
3 bus was involved in a traffic accident; and
4 WHEREAS, The bus driver was knocked from her seat and
5 struck the bus door; and
6 WHEREAS, Deangelo Lee, one of the seventeen students on
7 board, then jumped into the driver's seat and was able to
8 steer the rolling bus to the side of the road, bring it to a
9 safe stop, and radio for assistance; and
10 WHEREAS, John Childress, another of the students on
11 board, quickly got the other students on the bus into an
12 orderly line to prepare them to safely leave the bus; and
13 WHEREAS, The students said they learned what to do
14 because of training they had received from the District; and
15 WHEREAS, Because of the heroic and fast actions of these
16 two students, no students were injured in the accident;
17 therefore, be it
18 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
19 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20 we commend the actions of Deangelo Lee and John Childress,
21 and thank them for their quick thinking and willingness to
22 help their fellow students; and be it further
23 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
24 presented to Deangelo Lee and John Childress.
