91_HR0599 LRB9113347CBcb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Hepatitis C is a serious, chronic illness that 3 affects over four million Americans; and 4 WHEREAS, Each year, 35,000 Americans will be infected by 5 this disease and 10,000 will die from liver cancer or 6 cirrhosis caused by hepatitis C; almost half of all liver 7 transplants in the United States are performed for end-stage 8 hepatitis C; and 9 WHEREAS, H. Res 89, providing for a doubling of the 10 research budget for the National Institutes of Health over 11 the next five years, is presently pending in the United 12 States House of Representatives; and 13 WHEREAS, Additional research funding will aid in the 14 effort to control and cure hepatitis C; therefore, be it 15 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 16 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 17 we urge the United States House of Representatives to pass H. 18 Res 89; and be it further 19 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 20 forwarded to the Speaker of the United States House of 21 Representatives and to each member of the Illinois 22 congressional delegation.
