91_HR0720 LRB9113734KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The Joint Civic Committee of Italian Americans 3 will present its annual "Dante Award" on April 18, 2000; and 4 WHEREAS, Larry Wert, President and General Manager of NBC 5 5 Chicago, will be this year's recipient; Mr. Wert came to 6 WMAQ-TV from Chancellor Media Corporation where he served as 7 Senior Vice-President; he was responsible for radio 8 properties in Chicago and Detroit; Mr. Wert was President of 9 Evergreen Media Corporation in Chicago when it merged with 10 Chancellor Media Broadcasting in 1997; prior to the merger he 11 served as the President and General Manager of Evergreen's 12 The Loop and AM 1000; he previously spent 10 years with 13 ABC-TV; he was Local Sales Manager for WLS-TV in Chicago, and 14 at ABC-TV National Sales in New York, Chicago, and KABC-TV in 15 Los Angeles; Mr. Wert got his start in the industry at Leo 16 Burnett Advertising; and 17 WHEREAS, Mr. Wert is a member of the Advisory Council of 18 Columbia College Chicago's Television Department; he was 19 named the 1998 Honorary Chairman of the 11th Annual "Have a 20 Heart for Sickle Cell Anemia" benefit, and was the recipient 21 of the organization's 1998 "Gift of Life" Award; he was 22 honored with the 1998 Cosmopolitan Chamber of Commerce Award 23 for "Responding to Community Standards of Broadcasting"; Mr. 24 Wert was unanimously elected to the board of Junior 25 Achievement Chicago; he serves on the Board of Directors for 26 the Children's Brittle Bone Foundation, the Ronald McDonald's 27 Childrens Charities, the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, and 28 is a board member of Jim Shorts Children's Charities; and 29 WHEREAS, Mr. Wert is an Honorary Board and Nominating 30 Committee Member of RAINBOWS, an organization that helps 31 children cope with divorce; he also sits on the Board of 32 Trustees for Fenwick High School in Oak Park; and -2- LRB9113734KBkb 1 WHEREAS, He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism 2 from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he won 3 scholar-athlete honors, and was a two-time, All-American 4 diver; and 5 WHEREAS, Mr. Wert and his wife, Julie, reside in 6 Riverside, Illinois, with their four children; therefore, be 7 it 8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 9 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 10 we congratulate Larry Wert on being named the recipient of 11 the 2000 Dante Award, presented by the Joint Civic Committee 12 of Italian Americans; and be it further 13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 14 presented to Mr. Larry Wert.
