1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that the members of
3 this Body welcome the opportunity to recognize citizens of
4 this State who have made outstanding contributions to
5 society; and
6 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Dr. Bharat
7 Mehta has announced his retirement after thirty-five years in
8 medicine, twenty-seven of those years in Danville; and
9 WHEREAS, As a youngster in Bombay, his father steered him
10 into medicine; Bharat Mehta earned his pre-med degree in 1948
11 at Elphinstone College at Bombay University and his medical
12 degree in 1954 from the University of Bombay's Sheth G.S.
13 Medical School College; he did residencies and internships in
14 internal medicine and general surgery in Bombay; and
15 WHEREAS, After his residencies and internships, Dr. Mehta
16 specialized in orthopedic surgery and settled in Danville
17 twenty-seven years ago; and
18 WHEREAS, Dr. Mehta became the first orthopedic surgeon to
19 do joint replacement at St. Elizabeth Hospital, and helped
20 many people of all ages throughout the years; and
21 WHEREAS, Dr. Mehta plans to do consulting work at the
22 veterans hospital and volunteer work in India; he and his
23 wife, Asha, plan to travel; and
24 WHEREAS, Dr. Bharat Mehta has earned the respect and
25 admiration of all who have come to know him; therefore, be it
26 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
27 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
28 we congratulate Dr. Bharat Mehta on his retirement from
29 Danville Polyclinic and wish him the best in the future; and
30 be it further

2 presented to Dr. Bharat Mehta.
