 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The United States Justice Department  and  state
 3    attorneys  general  are  investigating  drug industry pricing
 4    practices that result in the Medicare and  Medicaid  programs
 5    substantially overpaying for certain prescription drugs; and

 6        WHEREAS,  The  Justice  Department  hopes to set up a new
 7    pricing system for some drugs that lists  prices  that  state
 8    Medicaid  fraud  investigators  have determined are closer to
 9    what  medical  providers  actually  pay  for   those   drugs;
10    therefore, be it

11        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
12    NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
13    the  House of Representatives directs the Attorney General of
14    Illinois to report to the General Assembly on the  status  of
15    the  investigation of drug industry pricing practices and the
16    steps being taken by  this  State  to  avoid  overpaying  for
17    prescription  drugs  provided under the Medicaid program; and
18    be it further

19        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives  directs  the
20    Inspector  General  within  the  Department  of Public Aid to
21    review the results of  the  investigation  of  drug  industry
22    pricing  practices  and report to the General Assembly on the
23    investigation's implications for the Medicaid program in this
24    State; and be it further

25        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives  directs  the
26    Department of Public Aid to identify, based on the results of
27    the   investigation   of  drug  industry  pricing  practices,
28    overpayments made by the Department  for  prescription  drugs
29    under the Medicaid program and report to the General Assembly
30    on corrective actions taken; and be it further

31        RESOLVED,  That  each  of the reports required under this

 1    Resolution shall be submitted to  the  General  Assembly  not
 2    later than October 1, 2000; and be it further

 3        RESOLVED,  That copies of this Resolution be forwarded to
 4    the  Attorney  General,  the  Inspector  General  within  the
 5    Department of Public Aid, and the Director of Public Aid.
