1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to recognize milestones in the
4 history of churches in the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church in Mt. Zion,
6 Illinois, will be celebrating 170 years of ministry in the
7 year 2000; and
8 WHEREAS, On April 24, 1830, the Mt. Zion Presbyterian
9 Church was established; the church was the first organized
10 place of worship in Macon County; and
11 WHEREAS, The Mt. Zion Presbyterian Academy was originally
12 built on property next to the church, after the members of
13 the church saw a need for an institute of higher learning; in
14 1901 the Academy was moved to the city of Decatur and renamed
15 Millikin University; and
16 WHEREAS, In 1977 the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Child Care
17 Center was established in the community of Mt. Zion; the
18 church established the first Adult Day Care Center in the
19 area; it now is a part of the St. Mary's Hospital Complex;
20 and
21 WHEREAS, The church members will be celebrating the
22 anniversary of the church in May of 2000; therefore, be it
23 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
24 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
25 we congratulate the congregation of Mt. Zion Presbyterian
26 Church on the 170th anniversary of ministry in the Mt. Zion
27 and Decatur communities; and be it further
28 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
29 presented to the congregation at Mt. Zion Presbyterian
30 Church.
