91_HR0843 LRB9114458KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of 3 Representatives wish to extend their sincere condolences to 4 the family and friends of former State Representative James 5 Marzuki, who recently passed away; and 6 WHEREAS, James Marzuki was a native of Aurora, Illinois; 7 he was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the 8 United States Navy; and 9 WHEREAS, Mr. Marzuki received his Bachelor's degree in 10 teaching from Western Illinois University and a Master's 11 degree from the University of New Mexico; he later earned a 12 Master's degree in environmental sciences from Governors 13 State University; and 14 WHEREAS, Mr. Marzuki taught art and industrial arts at 15 Rich East High School from 1956 to 1980; he also was a sports 16 coach; and 17 WHEREAS, He was elected to the Park Forest Plan 18 Commission in 1967; in 1975 he was elected trustee of the 19 village; he helped establish the 1,000 acre Thorn Creek 20 Nature Preserve, along with his late wife, Mary Lou Marzuki; 21 he also established the Tall Grass Arts Association and the 22 annual Park Forest Art Fair; and 23 WHEREAS, Mr. Marzuki won an upset victory in the race for 24 Representative of the 80th District in 1982; he supported the 25 environment, education, the Illinois living will legislation, 26 and women's and minorities' issues; he was an active member 27 of the Monee Township Democratic organization for many years; 28 and 29 WHEREAS, Mr. Marzuki loved to travel, and visited nearly 30 all the national and state parks in the United States; James 31 Marzuki will be missed by all that knew and loved him, -2- LRB9114458KBkb 1 especially his daughter, Marcy; his brothers, Jerry and Jack 2 Marzuki; and his sister, Judy Marzuki; therefore, be it 3 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 4 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that 5 we mourn, along with all that knew, loved, and respected him, 6 the death of former State Representative James Marzuki; and 7 be it further 8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 9 presented to the family of James Marzuki.
