91_HR0859 LRB9114697KBkb 1 HOUSE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The Hope School in Springfield, Illinois, has 3 recently enjoyed the honor of being selected as one of two 4 recipients nationwide receiving a full 2000 Douglas J. 5 Schwartz Living Foundation Greenhouse Award; and 6 WHEREAS, The Hope School has been serving children and 7 youth with multiple disabilities since 1957 and constantly 8 strives to provide the best learning and living 9 opportunities, enabling them to discover their fullest 10 potential; and 11 WHEREAS, On September 28, 2000, a special dedication 12 ceremony will take place for the newly erected Douglas J. 13 Schwartz Living Foundation Greenhouse at The Hope School; and 14 WHEREAS, This new greenhouse facility is an essential 15 part of the Horticulture Therapy Program designed to provide 16 additional employment opportunities, habilitation options, 17 and greater opportunities to develop interests that 18 contribute to a more happy and healthy lifestyle for 19 individuals living at The Hope School; and 20 WHEREAS, The purpose of this unique greenhouse award 21 program is to encourage the expansion of horticultural 22 therapy programs in order to serve greater numbers of 23 participants by providing a year-round growing environment; 24 and 25 WHEREAS, The Douglas J. Schwartz Living Foundation was 26 established in 1988 as living memorial to Douglas J. 27 Schwartz, whose life was characterized by his exceptionally 28 cheerful and generous nature and by the genuine love and 29 friendship he gave to all those around him; therefore, be it 30 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE 31 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that -2- LRB9114697KBkb 1 we join with The Hope School in expressing sincere 2 appreciation to the Douglas J. Schwartz Living Foundation for 3 its generosity in making possible the realization of this 4 impressive new greenhouse facility and further commend the 5 foundation for its ongoing support of horticultural therapy; 6 and be it further 7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 8 presented to a representative of the Douglas J. Schwartz 9 Living Foundation.
