1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are honored to announce acts of heroism by
4 citizens of the State of Illinois; and
5 WHEREAS, Navy Seaman Kenya McCarter of Calumet Park,
6 Illinois, was aboard the United States Navy Destroyer, the
7 USS Cole, when it was bombed by terrorists in the Yemeni Port
8 of Aden in October, 2000; and
9 WHEREAS, Despite being injured, Mr. McCarter went beyond
10 the ranks of duty to rescue other injured sailors who were
11 injured on the USS Cole; and
12 WHEREAS, Navy Seaman Kenya McCarter displayed acts of
13 bravery and courage during one of the most devastating acts
14 of terrorism against the United States; his acts of heroism
15 are not only noted by the State of Illinois, but also by the
16 rest of the country; and
17 WHEREAS, Navy Seaman Kenya McCarter is supported by his
18 loving and proud family in Calumet Park, Illinois; therefore,
19 be it
20 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
21 NINETY-FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
22 we honor Navy Seaman Kenya McCarter who displayed acts of
23 heroism during the attack on the United States Navy
24 Destroyer, the USS Cole; and be it further
25 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
26 presented to Navy Seaman Kenya McCarter as an expression of
27 our esteem.
