91_SB0325 LRB9100718MWgcA 1 AN ACT to amend the Counties Code by changing Section 2 5-37011. 3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 4 represented in the General Assembly: 5 Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by changing 6 Section 5-37011 as follows: 7 (55 ILCS 5/5-37011) (from Ch. 34, par. 5-37011) 8 Sec. 5-37011. Hospitalsecuritypolice force. The board 9 of commissioners, subject to the applicable merit system 10rules, may establish and maintain a HospitalSecurityPolice 11 Force andmay define andprescribe theall such peace12officers'duties and compensation of its police officers. 13 Everysecuritypolice officer appointed by the board to the 14 Hospitalsuch SecurityPolice Force, as the same shall be15from time to time hereafter constituted, shall have andis 16herebyvested with police powers,and isherebyauthorized to 17 act as a conservator of the peace primarily within and upon 18any and allhospital facilities operated andhospital19 premises controlled by thesuchboard. These police officers 20, and shallhavethepower to make arrests or cause to be 21 arrested, with or without process, any person who breaches 22breaksthe peace,or may be found violating any State 23 statutes or city or county ordinanceswithin or upon such24facilities or premises. 25 The board may establish reasonable eligibility 26 requirements for appointment as a police officerto such27Security Police Forcerelating to residence, health, habits, 28 and moral character.However,No person may be appointed as 29 a police officerhereunderunless that person is at least 21 30 years of age. No person may be appointed to or be retained 31 as a police officerin the Hospital Security Police Force-2- LRB9100718MWgcA 1 unless that person is of good character, isandnot a 2 habitual drunkard or,gambler, and has not beenor a person3 convicted of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude. 4 All police officers areSecurity Police Force personnel5 authorized to carry weaponswithin or upon hospital6facilities or premises while on-duty shall receive a course7of training in the legal and practical use of such weapons as8is required of a police officer under "An Act in relation to9firearms training for peace officers", approved August 29,101975, as amended,and mustall such Security Police Force11personnel shall alsohave received the training and 12 certification required by the"Illinois Police Training Act"13as now or hereafter amended.Security Police Force personnel14shall not carry weapons while off-duty and all weapons shall15be checked and secured on the hospital premises while such16personnel remain off-duty. 17 (Source: P.A. 86-962.)
