1 AN ACT to amend the Medical Patient Rights Act by adding
2 Section 3.3.
3 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
4 represented in the General Assembly:
5 Section 5. The Medical Patient Rights Act is amended by
6 adding Section 3.3 as follows:
7 (410 ILCS 50/3.3 new)
8 Sec. 3.3. Iatrogenic infections; patient information.
9 (a) In this Section:
10 "Health care institution" means a hospital,
11 ambulatory surgical treatment center, or nursing home,
12 and any medical clinic or other facility at which 10 or
13 more health care workers provide health care services.
14 "Iatrogenic infection" means an infection caused by
15 adverse incidents or circumstances in a health care
16 facility.
17 (b) A health care institution must provide patients, at
18 the time of their admission, and the general public, upon
19 request, with information about the number of patient deaths
20 in the institution's facility during the last 3 years caused
21 by iatrogenic infections.
