91_SR0012 LRB9101264CBcb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of this Body were saddened to learn 3 of the death of Reverend Eddie Madison Miller on Thursday, 4 January 7, 1999; and 5 WHEREAS, He was born on August 19, 1922 in Sherrill, 6 Arkansas, one of a set of twins born to Alvin and Elnora 7 Miller; his twin, Eddie Laura Mae Miller, died at an early 8 age; and 9 WHEREAS, He received his elementary education in the 10 Sherrill Public School System and later attended Pastoria 11 High School; he studied auto mechanics at Arkansas AM&N 12 College; and 13 WHEREAS, He was a member of the United States Army during 14 World War II; he received decorations and was honorably 15 discharged; and 16 WHEREAS, Eddie Miller was an active member of the New 17 Friendship M.B. Church, where he served as Chairman of the 18 Deacon Board, trustee, General Co-chairperson, and in various 19 other capacities; and 20 WHEREAS, In 1980, Eddie Miller accepted his call and was 21 licensed as a gospel preacher; on August 9, 1981 he was 22 ordained at New Friendship M.B. Church; on March 6, 1982, 23 Reverend Eddie Miller became founder and pastor of the 24 Sure-Way Missionary Baptist Church; and 25 WHEREAS, He served as President of the Baptist Pastor's 26 Conference of Chicago and Vicinity, a member of the Baptist 27 Minister's Conference, the Bethlehem Baptist District 28 Association of Chicago and Vicinity, Progressive National 29 Baptist Convention, and a member of the Board of Trustees 30 with the Chicago Baptist Institute; and -2- LRB9101264CBcb 1 WHEREAS, He was employed with the Streets and Sanitation 2 Department of the City of Chicago and retired in 1984; he was 3 also employed with Johnson Paving Company; he established his 4 own business, Deacon Eddie Miller and Son Paving Company; and 5 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family 6 and friends, especially his wife, Ora Lee; his children, 7 Clovice Collins, Rev. Dr. Eleanor Miller, Eddie Miller, and 8 Virginia Miller; his daughter-in-law, LaDonna; his brother, 9 Ezra Miller; his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lucille 10 Miller, Curtis and Geneva Williams, Hurcus and Dorothy 11 Williams, Rev. Sterling and Sophronia Edwards, Eurnice 12 Williams, and Geneva Alexander; his son-in-law, Harold S. 13 Collins; his grandchildren, Cheri N. Collins, Johnathan H. 14 and Jennie Collins, Jon-Harold D. Collins, and LaDonna V. 15 Miller; and the members of the Sure-Way Missionary Baptist 16 Church; therefore, be it 17 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow 19 and regret the death of Reverend Eddie Madison Miller and 20 extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends; and 21 be it further 22 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to 23 his widow, Ora Lee Miller.
