91_SR0027 LRB9100874CBcbA 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Harvey Gordon Clark died in Chicago at 59th and 3 Lake Shore Drive on November 30, 1991 in a head-on automotive 4 collision which could have been averted if protective 5 barriers had been in place to separate North and South bound 6 traffic; and 7 WHEREAS, Bright yellow colored, temporary concrete 8 barricades were erected in the medium strip of that dangerous 9 stretch of roadway; and 10 WHEREAS, After years of safe, accident free vehicular 11 passage, the temporary structures are now coming down and a 12 permanent, more attractive dividers are taking their place; 13 therefore, be it 14 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 15 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that the safety dividers 16 located at 59th and Lake Shore Drive be named the Harvey 17 Gordon Clark Lifesavers; and be it further 18 RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation, 19 together with the City of Chicago, be requested to erect, at 20 a suitable location consistent with State and federal 21 regulations, an appropriate plaque or signs giving notice of 22 the name of the dividers; and be it further 23 RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be 24 presented to the family of Harvey Gordon Clark, the Mayor of 25 the City of Chicago, and the Secretary of Transportation.
