91_SR0030 LRB9104896KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Important questions have arisen concerning 3 evidence in several cases where a death penalty verdict was 4 handed down by the courts; and 5 WHEREAS, Individuals who have been on death row for years 6 have been released from prison after evidence has shown that 7 they are innocent of the crimes for which they have been 8 convicted; and 9 WHEREAS, It is important that these cases be reviewed 10 before a final decision is made; therefore, be it 11 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 12 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we urge the Illinois 13 General Assembly to call for a moratorium of one year while 14 the death row cases in Illinois are reviewed; and be it 15 further 16 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to 17 the Governor of the State of Illinois, the Speaker of the 18 Illinois House of Representatives, and the President of the 19 Illinois Senate.
