91_SR0077 LRB9106519KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere sympathies to the family, friends, and 4 people of Mars Hill Baptist Church, who recently lost Pastor 5 Clarence Stowers, Sr.; and 6 WHEREAS, Pastor Stowers was the Shepard of Mars Hill 7 Baptist Church for the past 34 years; he was elected 8 Co-Pastor of the church in 1997; and 9 WHEREAS, Pastor Stowers was born on August 26, 1936; on 10 March 12, 1955 he married his wife, Margaret, and together 11 they raised their children, Sharron Lynn Moore, Robin Denise 12 Davis, Shawinette Davis, Clarence Stowers, Jr., and Marcie 13 Wilson; he had nine grandchildren and three 14 great-grandchildren; and 15 WHEREAS, In addition to his leadership duties, Pastor 16 Stowers served as the Executive Director of the MHS for the 17 past 16 years, as Past President of the Illinois Missionary 18 Baptist State Convention, as Vice Moderator of the Northwood 19 River District Association of Chicago, and as an Instructor 20 for the National Baptist Sunday Church School and B.T.U. 21 Congress for the past 8 years; and 22 WHEREAS, Pastor Stowers was Speaker for the General 23 Assembly National Baptist Sunday Church School and B.T.U.; he 24 served as Recording Secretary for the Evangelical Board of 25 the National Missionary Baptist Convention of America for the 26 past 6 years and as Chief Executive Officer for Musical Acres 27 Resort in Adams, Wisconsin; and 28 WHEREAS, Pastor Stowers will be remembered for his 29 dedication to serving God and his people; therefore, be it 30 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 31 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with -2- LRB9106519KBkb 1 all that knew and loved him, the memory of Pastor Clarence 2 Stowers, Sr.; in this time of loss, may there be a spirit of 3 peace and comfort available to all that need its gentle 4 touch; and be it further 5 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 6 presented to the family of Pastor Clarence Stowers, Sr.
