91_SR0123 LRB9106769KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Robert Stevenson Jr., who recently passed away; and 5 WHEREAS, Robert Stevenson was born in Methuen, 6 Massachusetts on December 25, 1935; his parents were Robert 7 Thomas and Adelaide Kelly Stevenson; on February 8, 1958 he 8 married Kathleen McDougal; and 9 WHEREAS, Robert Stevenson was an employee of Commercial 10 National Bank, later named First of America Bank-Illinois 11 N.A. from 1968 to 1997; he served the bank as regional 12 president from January of 1995 until his retirement in 13 February of 1997; he served as president and chief executive 14 officer from August of 1985 to December of 1994, and as 15 president from January 1983 to August of 1985; he served on 16 the board of directors of First of America Bank-Illinois and 17 the board of directors of National City Bank in Peoria; and 18 WHEREAS, From 1961 to 1968 he served with the Continental 19 Illinois National Bank as officer of the national division; 20 in 1995 and 1996 he served as director and president of the 21 Illinois Bankers Association and director of the Fayette 22 Companies; Mr. Stevenson was also a member of the American 23 Bankers Bank-Pac committee; and 24 WHEREAS, Mr. Stevenson served as a trustee and vice 25 chairman of Bradley University; he was a trustee of Methodist 26 Medical Center of Illinois; he was a member of the Economic 27 Development Council; he was chairman of the Heartland 28 Partnership; and he was a commissioner of the Greater Peoria 29 Airport Authority; and 30 WHEREAS, Mr. Stevenson was a veteran of the United States 31 Navy, serving from 1957 to 1960; he served on destroyers in -2- LRB9106769KBkb 1 the North Atlantic and achieved the rank of lieutenant junior 2 grade; and 3 WHEREAS, Mr. Stevenson graduated from Phillips Academy in 4 1953; he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from 5 Brown University in 1957; and 6 WHEREAS, Robert Stevenson Jr. is survived by his sons, 7 Robert III and James; his daughter, Kathleen Stevenson 8 Temple; and six grandchildren; therefore, be it 9 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 10 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 11 all that knew him, the death of Robert Stevenson Jr., of 12 Peoria Heights, Illinois; may they find peace in this time of 13 need; and be it further 14 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 15 presented to the family of Robert Stevenson Jr.
