91_SR0127 LRB9106800CBcb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn 3 of the death of Sheldon R. Goldstein of Miami, Florida, 4 formerly of Chicago, on Saturday, February 13, 1999; and 5 WHEREAS, He grew up in Chicago; after earning a business 6 degree from the University of Miami, he returned to work at 7 his family's liquor store; he returned to school and earned a 8 master's degree in social work from the Jane Addams School of 9 Social Work at the University of Illinois in Chicago; and 10 WHEREAS, His first job in the profession was as a 11 community worker in a child welfare department in England; he 12 then moved to Miami, where he worked in a mental health 13 facility; and 14 WHEREAS, He then returned to Chicago and helped to 15 rebuild the State chapter of the National Association of 16 Social Workers; he lobbied the State legislature and, with 17 Senator Emil Jones, was successful in getting legislation 18 passed requiring clinical social workers in Illinois to be 19 licensed; and 20 WHEREAS, He later became the Association's national 21 executive director in Washington, D.C.; and 22 WHEREAS, He moved back to Miami about a year ago; he was 23 an active, humorous man, living life to the fullest; and 24 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply missed by his family 25 and friends, especially his sister, Sandra Wysong; therefore, 26 be it 27 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 28 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow 29 and regret the death of Sheldon R. Goldstein and extend our 30 sincere condolences to his family and friends; and be it -2- LRB9106800CBcb 1 further 2 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 3 presented to his sister, Sandra Wysong.
