 1                          SENATE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn
 3    of the death of George W. Lundeen  of  Galesburg  on  Sunday,
 4    July 18, 1999; and

 5        WHEREAS,  He  was athletic director, assistant principal,
 6    coach,  and  guidance  counselor  during  his  31  years   at
 7    Galesburg High School; and

 8        WHEREAS,  He was born in Rio on January 31, 1928, the son
 9    of  Glen  and  Geneva  Ashley  Lundeen;  he  graduated   from
10    Galesburg  High  School  in  1945,  and earned Bachelor's and
11    Master's  degrees  in   education   from   Western   Illinois
12    University in Macomb; and

13        WHEREAS,  He  taught  at  Abingdon Junior High School and
14    High School for five years before starting work at  Galesburg
15    High School; he retired in 1985; and

16        WHEREAS,  He  was  active in establishing girl's athletic
17    programs in the Western Big 6 Conference; he was an  Illinois
18    High  School Association basketball and football referee, was
19    active in promoting Little League, and was  business  manager
20    for  the  Galesburg Pioneers Collegiate League baseball team;
21    and

22        WHEREAS, After his retirement, he was a  commentator  for
23    Galesburg  football  and  basketball  games for Radio Station
24    WGIL-AM for two years; and

25        WHEREAS, He was secretary of  the  Illinois  High  School
26    Guidance  Counselor's  Association  and a former president of
27    the Galesburg Education Association; he was a member of First
28    United Methodist Church, the Lake Bracken Country  Club,  the
29    Knox  County Retired Teacher's Association, and the Galesburg
30    High School Booster Club; and

 1        WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt  by  his  family
 2    and  friends, especially his wife, Janet; his mother, Geneva;
 3    his sons, Terry, Bruce, and Roger;  his  brother,  Fred;  his
 4    sisters,  Anna  Jean Steck, Eva Mae Weber, Joyce Rednour, and
 5    Judy Rylander; and his seven grandchildren; therefore, be it

 6        RESOLVED, BY  THE  SENATE  OF  THE  NINETY-FIRST  GENERAL
 7    ASSEMBLY  OF  THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow
 8    and regret the death of George  W.  Lundeen  and  extend  our
 9    sincere  condolences  to  his  family  and friends; and be it
10    further

11        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
12    presented to his widow, Janet Lundeen.
