91_SR0174 LRB9107784CBcb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, Senator Chris Lauzen and his wife Sarah, along 3 with all the members of the Illinois Senate, were saddened to 4 learn of the death of Barbara Gray Wake of Geneva on July 30, 5 1999; and 6 WHEREAS, She was born in Utica, New York, on April 25, 7 1927, the daughter of Henrietta and John R. Gray; she 8 graduated from high school in Ithaca, New York; she attended 9 the University of Michigan, where she was the business 10 manager of the Ensian Yearbook and president of Kappa Delta 11 Sorority; she earned her bachelor's degree in business 12 administration; and 13 WHEREAS, She married Bill Wake in Ithaca on September 4, 14 1948; they lived in Aurora, where she worked as a tax 15 accountant, then moved to Elgin for nine years, and then 16 moved back to Aurora; they moved to Geneva in 1993; and 17 WHEREAS, She worked with her husband at Eby-Brown Company 18 as an accountant, computer programmer, and controller; her 19 last positions were Chief Financial Officer and Benefits 20 Manager; and 21 WHEREAS, She received many awards through her work in the 22 tobacco and candy industry including NATD Woman of the Year 23 for 1986, the IATCD Woman of the Year for 1988, and with her 24 husband, from the National Association of Christian and Jews, 25 the Brother Award for 1989; she also received the Kelly Girls 26 Organization Green Beret Award; and with her husband, she 27 received the Hal Beebee Book of Golden Deeds Award in 1988 28 and the Gerry Sullivan Caritas Award from the Catholic 29 Charities, USA in 1990; and 30 WHEREAS, She was affiliated with the Easter Seals, the 31 Aurora University Board of Directors, the Elgin Junior -2- LRB9107784CBcb 1 Service Board, the Aurora Junior Women's Club, and was 2 co-trustee of the Eby-Brown Foundation; and 3 WHEREAS, Her passing will be deeply felt by her family 4 and friends, especially her husband, Bill; her six children; 5 her fifteen grandchildren; and her aunt, her nieces, and her 6 nephews; therefore, be it 7 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 8 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow 9 and regret the death of Barbara Gray Wake and extend our 10 sincere condolences to her family and friends; and be it 11 further 12 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 13 presented to her husband, Bill Wake.
