91_SR0200 LRB9109286CBcb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn 3 of the death of Mayor Paul Jung of Des Plaines on Sunday, 4 October 24, 1999; and 5 WHEREAS, He was born in Chicago on August 9, 1936; he 6 graduated from Evanston High School and earned a bachelor of 7 science degree in education at Northern Illinois University; 8 he earned a master's degree in administration and school 9 business management and then a doctorate in educational 10 administration; and 11 WHEREAS, He began his teaching career in Palatine 12 Elementary School District 15 in 1959; he became principal in 13 1963, director of personnel in 1968, assistant superintendent 14 in 1973, and superintendent of La Grange Highlands District 15 106 in 1975; and 16 WHEREAS, Mr. Jung moved to Des Plaines in 1982 when he 17 became superintendent of District 62, a position he held 18 until he retired in 1993; he then became chairman of the 19 educational department of National-Louis University in 20 Evanston; and 21 WHEREAS, He was elected mayor in 1997 and worked long and 22 hard to better his community; he brought many new businesses 23 to the community; and 24 WHEREAS, He served on the administrative board of the 25 First United Methodist Church of Des Plaines, was president 26 of the Maine Township School Board, and was a member of the 27 Rotary Club of Des Plaines and the Des Plaines Arts Council; 28 and 29 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family 30 and friends, especially his wife, Norma; his daughters, 31 Sharon Klingman, Catherine Hunkeler, and Mary Thuma; and his -2- LRB9109286CBcb 1 eight grandchildren; therefore, be it 2 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 3 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow 4 and regret the death of Mayor Paul Jung and extend our 5 sincere condolences to his family and friends; and be it 6 further 7 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 8 presented to his widow, Mrs. Norma Jung.
