91_SR0232 LRB9109795CBcb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate were saddened to learn 3 of the death of John A. Patterson, Sr., on November 23, 1999; 4 and 5 WHEREAS, He was born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, on 6 February 24, 1942; he moved to Chicago as a youngster; he 7 attended Lindbergh Elementary School and North Chicago 8 Community High School; and 9 WHEREAS, He enlisted in the United States Army and served 10 as a medical specialist for four years; and 11 WHEREAS, He married the former June Hooper on March 7, 12 1964; they were blessed with thirty-six years of marriage; 13 and 14 WHEREAS, He worked for twelve years at Johns Manville in 15 Waukegan as an overhead crane operator; later he was employed 16 as the Athletic Director for eight years at the Foss Park 17 District Youth Center in North Chicago; beginning in 1982, he 18 worked as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Laborer for the North 19 Shore Sanitary District in Gurnee; and 20 WHEREAS, He loved football; he was a semi-professional 21 football player for the Lake County Rifles in the mid 1960s 22 and his involvement with the sport led to the formation of 23 the North Chicago Flames Football Program; and 24 WHEREAS, His passing will be deeply felt by his family 25 and friends, especially his wife, June; his sons, John Jr., 26 Jamal, and Jeff; his daughter, Janina Woodard; his 27 daughters-in-law, Deborah and Dawn; his son-in-law, Darrell 28 Woodard; his grandchildren, Jarreau, Jasmyne, Jewel, Ulysses, 29 John III, and Jace; his mother, Inez Banks; his brothers, 30 James Patterson, Sr., George Patterson, Albert Patterson, 31 Charles Banks, Henry Banks, Freddie Patterson, Charles -2- LRB9109795CBcb 1 Patterson, and Shawn Mansfield; his sisters, Cloretha 2 Williams, Mary Lou Taylor, Gladys Williford, and Yolanda 3 Griffin; his aunts, Alberta Packard, Lucille Mayfield, Beulah 4 Smith, and Francis Packard; and his uncle, Alex Williams; 5 therefore, be it 6 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 7 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we note with sorrow 8 and regret the death of John A. Patterson, Sr., and extend 9 our deepest condolences to his family and friends; and be it 10 further 11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 12 presented to his widow, June Patterson.
