91_SR0250 LRB9111022KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 extend their sincere sympathies to the family and friends of 4 Catherine Shadis, who recently passed away; and 5 WHEREAS, Catherine Shadis was born in Topeka, Kansas on 6 August 14, 1919; her parents were Valentine Alway and 7 Catherine Schafer Alway; and 8 WHEREAS, Catherine Shadis was known as a loving mother, 9 grandmother, who enjoyed her family, friends, and 10 entertaining; and 11 WHEREAS, Catherine Shadis was a member of St. Joseph 12 Church and the Turner Club; she was the owner of The Cathy 13 Shop in Aurora and later Cathy's in Geneva; and 14 WHEREAS, Catherine Shadis was an part of the Republican 15 party for many years; she served as a Kane County Chairwoman; 16 she was a member of the Republican State central committee; 17 she served as a precinct committeewoman; and since 1983 she 18 had been a member of the Aurora Republican Women's Club, 19 serving as president from 1985 to 1990, and being named ARWC 20 Woman of the Year in 1999; and 21 WHEREAS, Catherine Shadis is survived by her son, Albert 22 Shadis and his wife, Tamara; her grandchildren, Eileen 23 Johnson and her husband, Patrick, Kathleen Lena and her 24 husband, Ken, Ashley Shadis, Albert Shadis, and Alexander 25 Shadis; her great-grandchildren, James Lena, Samantha 26 Johnson, Veronica Johnson, and Patrick Johnson; her sisters, 27 Anne Aister and her husband, John, and Beatrice Hight; her 28 aunt, Rose Adams and her husband, Robert; and many nieces and 29 nephews; therefore, be it 30 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 31 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with -2- LRB9111022KBkb 1 all that knew and loved her, the death of Catherine Shadis of 2 Aurora, Illinois; and be it further 3 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 4 presented to the family of Catherine Shadis.
