91_SR0296 SRS91SR0038SSsa 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The state would benefit substantially from 3 enhanced technological and economic development; and 4 WHEREAS, The development of technology-intensive 5 industrial sectors of the Illinois economy offers the best 6 opportunity for long-term economic vitality, for the 7 expansion of jobs, for improved productivity and a quality 8 standard of living, and for providing the greatest number of 9 our citizens' genuine opportunity; and 10 WHEREAS, A significant function of government and state 11 universities is to increase opportunities for gainful 12 employment, to assist in promoting a productive technological 13 economy, to encourage the flow of private capital for 14 investment in technological-intensive enterprises, and to 15 otherwise improve the prosperity, health, and general welfare 16 of the inhabitants of the State; and 17 WHEREAS, The General Assembly recognizes the growing 18 importance of the unique contributions to the state's 19 economic development made by the University of Illinois as a 20 distinct part of its traditional responsibilities for 21 instruction, research and public service; therefore be it 22 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 23 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, That the University of 24 Illinois be encouraged to expand its role in statewide 25 economic development; and be it further 26 RESOLVED, That the University of Illinois make good faith 27 efforts to work with the appropriate state and private 28 agencies, local community leaders, and others interested in 29 economic development initiatives; and be it further 30 RESOLVED, That the University of Illinois be encouraged 31 to use its facilities, equipment, research scientists' and -2- SRS91SR0038SSsa 1 staff's time and services, and other resources for the 2 development and commercialization of new technological and 3 scientific innovations, and that such uses be deemed to be in 4 the public interest and not in conflict with other uses or 5 purposes that derive from its traditional responsibilities 6 for instruction, research and public service; and be it 7 further 8 RESOLVED, That the University of Illinois seek to work 9 with other state public and private institutions for 10 expanding technology transfer efforts throughout the state of 11 Illinois.
