91_SR0381 LRB9114667KBkb 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened 3 to learn of the death of Carolyn Marie Hicks Bonner, who 4 recently passed away; and 5 WHEREAS, Carolyn Bonner was born on December 17, 1943; 6 her parents were Charles and Betty Pruitt Hicks; Mrs. Bonner 7 was the ninth of eleven children; she accepted Jesus Christ 8 as her Savior and was an active member of Mt. Zion Missionary 9 Baptist Church where she served as a deaconess and as a 10 member of Voices of Zion; and 11 WHEREAS, Carolyn Bonner attended school in East St. 12 Louis; she was a graduate of Lincoln University, where she 13 received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education; she 14 received her Master's degree in Counseling and Guidance from 15 the University of Illinois; Mrs. Bonner was also a Licensed 16 Practical Nurse; she retired from a thirty-year teaching 17 career at Jefferson/Mandela Elementary School, where she 18 received the Golden Teacher's Award and the Apple Teacher's 19 Award; and 20 WHEREAS, Carolyn Bonner was initiated into the East St. 21 Louis Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in 22 April of 1972; she served on the Debutante Ball, Scholarship, 23 Breakfast with Santa, and Founders Day Committees; and 24 WHEREAS, Mrs. Bonner will be remembered as a loving and 25 compassionate person, and her death will be felt by all that 26 knew her, especially her loving husband, Dr. Richard M. 27 Bonner; her children, Reisha (Cordell) McKinney, and Riquita, 28 Richard, Jr., and Ricardo Bonner; her stepson, Marvin 29 (Heather) Evans; her grandsons, Christian Michael McKinney 30 and Justin Hartley; her sisters, Dorothy Hicks, Ruth Staten, 31 and Betty (John) Collins; her brothers, John Henry (Minnie) 32 Hicks and William (Juanita) Hicks; her sisters-in-law, -2- LRB9114667KBkb 1 Ernestine Cotton, Susie (David) Hawkins, and Martha L. 2 Austin; and her nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, 3 and many friends; therefore, be it 4 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 5 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we extend our sincere 6 condolences to the family and friends of Carolyn Bonner in 7 this time of loss; and be it further 8 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 9 presented to the family of Carolyn Bonner.
