91_SR0455 LRB9115155RHrh 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of Edsel W. "Ed" Tieman, who passed away November 24, 2000; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, Edsel Tieman was born on July 4, 1938 in Alma, 7 Missouri to Emil C. and Ida Tieman; and 8 WHEREAS, Edsel Tieman attended St. Paul's Lutheran High 9 School and Junior College in Concordia; he earned a bachelor 10 of science degree from Concordia Teacher's College and a 11 master of arts degree in school administration from Central 12 Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo; and 13 WHEREAS, Mt. Tieman was a member of Concordia Lutheran 14 Church and recently retired as principal of the Lutheran 15 School Association; he loved to garden, cook and travel; his 16 greatest loves were his Lord, family and his teachings; and 17 WHEREAS, Mr. Tieman fulfilled his calling and passion to 18 teach children about Jesus in the following places: St. 19 Stephen's Lutheran School, inner-city St. Louis, Mo., where 20 he taught the fourth and sixth grades from 1960 to 1964; 21 Grace Lutheran School, inner-city St. Louis, where he was 22 principal and taught grades four through eight from 1964 to 23 1966; Grace Lutheran Chapel, suburban St. Louis County, where 24 he taught fifth grade from 1966 to 1967; Faith Lutheran 25 School, Jefferson City, Mo, where he was principal and taught 26 the sixth and seventh grades from 1971 to 1990; Lutheran 27 School Association, Decatur, Illinois, where he was principal 28 and taught the fourth grade half days for three years and 29 then full time principal between 1990 and 2000; and 30 WHEREAS, Mr. Tieman's service to the church has included: 31 lay minister and past president of Concordia Lutheran Church; -2- LRB9115155RHrh 1 chairman of district's Principals Conference; leading Bible 2 Institutes for district; member of district's Board of 3 Directors; district workshop leader; treasurer of Lutheran 4 teachers conference; VBS director; and Bible class teacher; 5 and 6 WHEREAS, The passing of Edsel W. Tieman will be deeply 7 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife, 8 Carol; his daughters, Cynthia (husband, Donald) Tappendorf 9 and Sandra (husband, Peter) Meyer; his son, Robert (wife, 10 Marcia) Tieman; his grandchildren, Rebecca, Nathan, Kyle, Ben 11 Caroline, Caleb, and Michelle; and his stepmother, Lorene 12 Tieman; and 13 WHEREAS, Edsel Tieman touched the lives of many students 14 and their families throughout the years; his commitment and 15 dedication to children went beyond expectation; therefore, be 16 it 17 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with 19 all who knew him, the death of Edsel W. Tieman; and be it 20 further 21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 22 presented to the family of Edsel W. Tieman.
