91_SR0461 LRB9115181KBkbA 1 SENATE RESOLUTION 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to 3 express their sincere condolences to the family and friends 4 of John Hickey, who recently passed away; and 5 WHEREAS, John Hickey was born on January 31, 1945, on a 6 modest farm in Brosna, County Kerry, Ireland; it was there 7 that he learned about hard work and the closeness of family; 8 John Hickey migrated from Ireland to Chicago in 1963, where 9 he lived with his Aunt Johanna Lehane on "The Boulevard" in 10 Visitation Parish; he first worked as a fireman and oiler for 11 Fireman and Oiler Local 7 at Sears, Roebuck & Company; he 12 then went to work as an engineer for Local 399; and 13 WHEREAS, Mr. Hickey rose in the ranks at Local 399 to 14 become the Chief Operating Engineer of Facilities in Cook 15 County; he was assigned to various buildings around the 16 Chicago area; Mr. Hickey also served on the executive board 17 of Local 399, where he served as a leader and activist; and 18 WHEREAS, John Hickey was a regular at St. Bedes Parish 19 dances where he met his wife, Mary; and 20 WHEREAS, John Hickey was a member of the Chief Engineers 21 Association, PREA, the Ancient Order of Hiberians, Kerry 22 Social and Benevolent Association, Gaelic Park, the Limerick 23 Association, the Irish American Alliance, and many other 24 organizations; and 25 WHEREAS, Mr. Hickey was a sports fan and an avid golfer 26 and a member of the Mulligans; and 27 WHEREAS, The passing of John Hickey will be felt by all 28 who knew him, especially his wife, Mary; his daughter, Mary 29 Theresa; his sons, Timothy (wife, Jennifer), Dennis, and 30 John; his grandchildren, Timothy and Kirsten; and his 31 brother, Pat; therefore, be it -2- LRB9115181KBkbA 1 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIRST GENERAL 2 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing 3 of John Hickey, a man who will be remembered for his broad 4 smile and firm handshake, and extend our sympathy to his 5 family and friends at this time; and be it further 6 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 7 presented to the family of John Hickey.
