BIGGINS. (O'MALLEY) 35 ILCS 200/15-143 new Amends the Property Tax Code. Provides that property owned by metropolitan water reclamation districts in counties with a population greater than 3,000,000 is exempt. Provides that any such property leased to an entity that is not exempt shall remain exempt, and the leasehold interest of the lessee shall be assessed under the Section concerning the leasing of exempt property. Provides that if property was leased by the district before the effective date of this amendatory Act to an entity that was not exempt and the property has been restored to the possession and use of the district for a period of at least 6 months, any lien for unpaid real estate taxes and any obligation on the part of the district to pay those taxes is discharged and extinguished. Effective immediately. SENATE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Further amends the Property Tax Code.
