DART-FRANKS-LANG-CROTTY-BOLAND, BOST, GARRETT, HOFFMAN AND SCOTT. (MUNOZ) New Act Creates the Illinois Legislative Medal of Valor Act. Provides that the General Assembly shall award the Illinois Legislative Medal of Valor to current or former members of the State military forces or the United States armed forces who perform extraordinary deeds of personal bravery or self-sacrifice. Provides that any individual having personal knowledge of an act, an achievement, or exceptional service warranting the award may make a recommendation to the Adjutant General. Provides that the Adjutant General must transmit the recommendations to a 5-member panel of veterans. Provides that the panel shall make recommendations to the General Assembly concerning awarding of the medal. Provides that the medal shall be awarded upon approval of a joint resolution of the General Assembly. Provides that the Governor shall confer the medal to recipients on Veteran's Day. Provides for the design and production of the medal, a ribbon for uniform wear, and a ceremonial plaque. Effective immediately. HOUSE AMENDMENT NO. 1. Provides that the Adjutant General's designee may serve as a member of the panel established to review recommendations for awarding the Illinois Legislative Medal of Valor. Provides that members of the panel shall serve without compensation, but may be reimbursed for expenses. Provides that the Governor's designee may confer the Illinois Legislative Medal of Valor on recipients. Provides that when wearing the Illinois Legislative Medal of Valor, active military personnel shall follow the guidelines established for their branch of service.
