SILVERSTEIN. 720 ILCS 5/17-23 new Amends the Criminal Code of 1961. Creates the offense of taking the identity of another person. Provides that it is unlawful to take the name, birth date, or social security number of another person, without that other person's consent and with the intent to obtain or use the other person's identity for an unlawful purpose or to cause economic loss to another person. Provides that the penalty is a Class A misdemeanor unless the taking of the identity of another person is for the purpose of evading a peace officer.
